Film Name: 封神第二部:战火西岐 / Creation of The Gods Ⅱ: Demon Forces Demon
After watching “Creation of The Gods Ⅱ: Demon Forces Demon” (hereinafter referred to as “Creation of The Gods 2”), the biggest feeling I had was: this is a movie made by the same people who made “Creation of The Gods Ⅰ: Kingdom of Storms”?
To be fair, “Creation of The Gods 2” isn’t that bad, but when you think about its predecessor, you have to admit that the quality of the movie has gone downhill – and “Creation of The Gods 1” wasn’t that great, either, thanks to the innovative and insightful narrative as well as the audience’s support. It relied on an innovative and insightful narrative and a sold-out audience to make it work, and this sequel loses what’s left of that.
What’s left of Creation of The Gods 2? Flat, faceted characters, a formulaic turn-based war, and a watered-down plot …… But we don’t have any of those things.
This is like a packet of noodles without seasoning, with hot water that has not yet boiled, and finally put a little sauce to eat, you can not say that it has no flavor, but it really does not taste good ah.
[Friendly reminder: there will be spoilers below].
Given that the “industrialized production” of “Creation of The Gods 1” was one of the major selling points of the movie, and that this is the main attraction and lightning point of “Creation of The Gods 2”, I’ll start here.
“Creation of The Gods 2” is still very top in the live-action/live-filming part, and the horse battle scene really has two brushes,……, but when it comes to the special effects part, it’s hard to say anything, especially when it reveals Yin Jiao’s phantom, which is such a big flaw.
Seriously, the rendering is not enough can be accepted, occasional wear mold can also be considered as not see, but the audience can not accept the most one word: ugly.
This Yinjiao’s phantom is far less detailed than the red-haired ghosts in “A Writer’s Odyssey” a few years ago, and looks like three red-haired Dr. Manhattans, with three personalities: calm, angry, and sad, which makes me have to do mental construction every time I see it. …… The most important thing is that this set of modeling is the same as that of “Creation of The Gods 2”. Creation of The Gods 2″ is completely inconsistent with the style of painting, often out of character.
The special effects of the four generals of the Devil’s family, Wen Taishi, the ink unicorn, and the Ten Jedi Formations were all well done, and seemed to be able to cope with the past, but the appearance of Yin Jiao’s phantom brought back the doubt that the special effects were not finished.
As for the more important story and characters of “Creation of The Gods 2”, I think the whole movie only accomplished half of Deng Canyu.
The movie’s adaptation of Deng Canyu is completely modern, brave and bold, and with Nalnasi’s heroic looks and actions, it’s hard not to win the hearts of the audience.
Deng is also the only character in the movie who struggles and arcs, thinking about “who she’s fighting for,” resisting the slaughter of civilians, and wavering in her loyalties, which is rare and essential in a movie that depicts war in such a comprehensive manner as Creation of The Gods 2. In a movie like “Creation of The Gods 2”, what she says, what she thinks, and what she does is invaluable and essential.
As to why Deng Canyu only achieved “half”, it has to be attributed to the fact that the movie’s portrayal of her is really start to finish, posing good questions but not enough answers, and later on, in order to enrich the character’s story line, it also gives her and Jifa a messy and inexplicable love scene, which I think most of the viewers would like to see is not the case.
As the protagonist of Creation of The Gods 2, Jifa’s performance makes me wonder: why are you not much different from the opening of Creation of The Gods 1? Or maybe it’s not as good as it was then. ……
In the previous film, Ji Fa went through several ups and downs, admiration and disillusionment for his adoptive father Yin Shou, doubt and recognition of his biological father Ji Chang, rebellion against his father’s authority, and going home to plot against him, and even sacrificed Yin Jiao and a group of good brothers of the hostage corps, and then in the movie, he became a hesitant and grating person.
Ji Chang are killed, the whole Xiji are your master, are waiting for you to show the style of the king of Wu, the result of Ji Fa and the Yin Shang vanguard fought once, full of thought in the thought of “tied himself up and surrendered, truce”, but also again and again a few times.
This kind of practice on the verbal mention of a mouth is enough, really out of the actual operation is too beautiful, not only the character growth of Ji Fa back to the original shape, but also the battle of Xiqi into a child’s play.
Even if Ji Fa for the people of the liver and brain, and so really can dry off Wen Taishi when and because Deng Canyu hesitation, but also rely on the latter to personally hand down …… so these two front really a bunch of waste play.
The other characters, needless to say, have all been reduced to the extent that only some facial depictions remain.
There’s nothing more to Yin Shou except a scene where he’s abandoned by his father when he was a child, he’s just a tyrant who keeps killing people with his own hands and ordering them to be killed, which is a far cry from the main character in “Creation of The Gods 1”, and Su Daji, let alone the scourge of the country and the people, is the first loyal subject who sacrificed everything for Yin Shou…. …
I can’t help but laugh at the fact that Yin Jiao, who is supposed to be a great character, becomes a tool of vengeance. Seeing him subdued by the Tongtian Sect Leader in the last two eggs, and recognizing Yin Shou and Daji as his father and mother like the seven children in “The Gourd Brother”, I can’t help but laugh at all of the torment that comes before it.
The characters and story aren’t very interesting anymore, so how about the war drama in “Creation of The Gods 2”? It doesn’t seem to be very good either.
In order to make Yin Shang and Xiji fight back and forth, the movie always creates a balance between the two sides and cuts down Yin Shang’s army. Under the guidance of this concept, the four generals of the Demon Family become reckless and cannon fodder who are huge and can still do a little bit of magic, and Wen Taishi can only use the Ten Deadly Formations to make a desperate attempt to win the war.
But this doesn’t work either. Relying on Lei Zhenzi, Yin Jiao, Jiang Ziya, Yang Jian, Nezha, etc., and seeing that the powerful Xiji will soon be able to counterattack Chaogao, they keep cutting them down, and the battle system simply doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.
If you’re going to make a movie, don’t be so particular about the rituals of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties. “Creation of The Gods 2” turns the war into a turn-based system where you fight first and then I fight later.
At the end of the day, was “Creation of The Gods 1” able to break out of the underwhelming crowd only because of the “big production” or the “beautiful flesh of the god training camp” (okay, I admit it)? (okay, I’ll admit, it does work)? No, I think it’s mostly about the struggles, the choices, the growth, the human complexity of the movie.
Whether this complexity is Chinese or Western, grandiose or brutal, it will at least give the audience something to think about while enjoying the big scenes.
Those swords were wielded against their own fathers and brothers, while “Creation of The Gods 2” turned into a visual spectacle of soldiers drinking water and walking.
It’s scary to think that Shen Gongbao helped Yin Shou turn the Proton Corps into emotionless compulsion soldiers, which will be the main opponents in “Creation of The Gods” – people killing people is the only way to show the cruelty of war and the complexity of human nature, but if you’re killing monsters, it’s no longer a psychological burden, but it’s just another dull, uninteresting and uninspired fight. But if you kill a monster, then there is no psychological burden, but just another dry and strange, good versus evil “hero game”.
