Film Name: 哥斯拉大战金刚 / GvK / Godzilla vs Kong

Open the door to the conclusion: if you want to see special effects, want to see the super-beasts fight, then do not hesitate, hurry to see; if you watch the movie will still consider the logic, relying solely on the audio-visual experience can not satisfy, that or forget it ……

I didn’t intend to use my brain, but after watching “Godzilla vs Kong”, my brain couldn’t help but turn around–

Am I dissatisfied with the movie? Can’t say I am, it does a great job of controlling its core selling points and fulfills the core viewing needs of many viewers.

But is the movie good? No, Godzilla vs Kong proves once again how awkward commercial movies can be when they’re “heavily biased” by completely abandoning the written word.

[WARNING: It doesn’t matter if it’s a drama or not, so don’t be afraid to scroll down.]

As per usual, even if I didn’t like Godzilla vs Kong, I’m going to start by talking about the best thing about this movie: the action sequences really bomb.

Arguably, there are only three big fights in the most important part of the entire movie, and the rest of the content serves those three fights.

The first sea encounter, Godzilla surprise attack on the U.S. fleet, the target is the other side of the transportation of King Kong – land behemoth King Kong is at a total disadvantage, only a few unlucky warships can be used as a landing point, by the ability to come and go in the sea of Godzilla’s blood abuse.

The point of this battle is a rare sea battle in a monster movie, the most powerful weapon of mankind (one of them) in front of the behemoth is like a child’s play, reduced to the background plate, the water, underwater, inside the ship, outside the ship of the alternating footage to advance, quite a sense of freshness.

The second date breaks out in Hong Kong, Godzilla uses atomic spit to penetrate the surface of the earth, and in the center of the earth, King Kong brings his newly-arrived artifacts to answer the battle in an ounce of strength, and at one point knocks out Godzilla ……

However, out of the absolute power gap, King Kong still lost in the end.

This battle is a return to the traditional monster movie fighting formula, Godzilla and King Kong fight each other while smashing the neon flashing Hong Kong city to pieces, fully catering to the audience’s innate desire for destruction, and it is no exaggeration to say that this dazzling and hilarious action scene deserves the significance of the “first time that Godzilla and King Kong have fought each other on the 21st Century’s big screen! “.

The third battle is an unsurprising showdown, with Godzilla and King Kong facing off against the mighty Mechagodzilla in succession. Neither of them is a match for Godzilla on their own, and it is only through cooperation that the two finally defeat their formidable foe.

I have to say, the design of this mechanical Godzilla is very handsome, with a decent silver and white color scheme, a strong sense of metal rivets, and the ion cannon on the palm of the hand is also very thoughtful, and the texture of the whole can be comparable to that of the “Thief Gull” giant mecha in Pacific Rim (much better than that of the homage to the nature of mechanical Godzilla in Ready Player One), and it is the biggest surprise for me in Godzilla vs Kong. This was the biggest surprise of Godzilla vs Kong for me.

The final fight scene between RoboGodzilla and the two main characters of the movie is also very good. …… In short, if you are looking for this kind of “bang…bang…bang! Bang! Bang!” If that’s what you’re going for, it’s worth the price of admission.

Now it’s time to talk about what’s wrong with Godzilla vs Kong, and one of the worst things is that no one in the movie has a heart, not Godzilla, not Kong, and not any of the human characters that appear in the movie.

Our generation of viewers has become almost incapable of accepting film and television creations that are purely visual spectacles, which requires that the characters (at least one or two) must at least have a “human face”, otherwise they become empty shells.

And this movie does just that. Theoretically, Gia, the deaf girl who can communicate with King Kong, and Erin, who wants to protect King Kong, are the two women who should be the most benevolent and kind-hearted characters, but as it turns out, apart from their superficial care, they act as accomplices in bringing King Kong to battle step by step (and they don’t really show much emotion), and the other supporting characters, such as Nathan, even worse, are not logical, but real tools. They’re just tools of the trade.

The trio of Mathison, Bernie, and Josh is even more inane, and their part in the movie is a nonsensical farce of conspiracy theorists on a rampage.

I’m not going to mention the older monster movies or those from other manufacturers, but let’s just say that the first few films in the Legendary + Warner “Monster Universe” series, even if their plots are not good, at least they are not bad, there’s still a regrettable father-son relationship in Godzilla, there’s still a bit of military blindness, bloodlust, arrogance and awareness in Kong: Skull Island, and even in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, there’s still a “King” in addition to a bunch of monsters haunting the screen. In “Godzilla”, there is a regrettable father-son relationship, in “Kong: Skull Island”, there is still a little bit of the soldier’s blindness, bloodthirstiness, arrogance and awareness, and even “Godzilla: King of the Monsters”, there is still a “guardian” title after a bunch of monster haunts the screen. ……

But Godzilla vs Kong? Nothing.

Even if you minimize the requirements, the script of the film is not good enough for the production level of this film, just give Godzilla and Kong a name of “feud”, and then a few seemingly hilarious but not too painful fights, and then finally have a happy ending, which is a long time I haven’t seen this kind of blockbuster that completely lies down and give up on the literature. ..

Someone is sure to say, “Who reads the plot when all you have to do to watch a movie like this is have a good fight?” Even if I may have thought similarly before, I’m sure I’ll be corrected after Godzilla vs Kong.

King Kong gave audiences a glimpse of human selfishness and darkness at its birth, and Godzilla was born out of the Japanese fear of nuclear technology …… Admittedly, the meanings of these monsters have been deconstructed, reshaped, and innovated over the past few dozen or so centuries, but in any case, those meanings begin with the hunt but go beyond it.

There is an inherent “fear/fascination” of titans/beasts, and watching Godzilla and King Kong go at it is the best way to satisfy those feelings, but it’s always the little bit extra in terms of visual and audio stimulation that really sticks in the mind of the viewer.

When Godzilla vs Kong shrugs off all the “excess baggage” and is left with a screen full of behemoths bombarding the screen, the movie is nothing but manipulation, worship, obsession and belief in supreme power – there is no fear of power here, only slavery to power. There is no fear of power here, only slavery to power.
