Meg 2: The Trench is, of course, not a great movie, but it does seem to show some of the possibilities for “the future of the domestic genre”.
I wasn’t planning on seeing this movie, because I hadn’t seen the 2018 film The Meg, and because initial word-of-mouth and my own preconceptions suggested it wasn’t very good, but more because I had time today ……
I should say that the movie didn’t exceed my expectations (after all, I didn’t expect much), and was kind of middle of the road.
The first half, Meg 2: The Trench, is a deep-sea adventure action movie with monster elements, and despite being rather clichéd, the basic pies and shelves are there, kind of a typical Hollywood commercial movie;
The second half of “Meg 2: The Trench” is quickly over to the flavor of pure monster movie, logic collapse, monster rampage, all the characters and the plot are reduced to action scenes and big scenes of sacrifice, in addition to Statham and Wu Jing performed a little bit of blockbuster look, the rest of the simply B to can not be another B movie, I could not help but laugh a number of times in the second half of the origin of that kind of complete loss of the brain! Meg 2: The Trench” is a Sino-American co-production, which gives the impression that it is an American blockbuster with an unmistakable ‘template’, but by looking at the names of Chinese filmmakers and Chinese companies in the subtitles before and after the movie, one can probably understand that this movie belongs to the two sides to put down their burdens once again, and take the road with ease, and test the waters.
