Taking advantage of the opportunity of the large-scale screening two days ago, I went to see this Happy Mahua works, in the director Zhang Eat Fish and Shen Teng + Ma Li combination of support, the movie “laughs” is still quite passable.
Compared to the “sci-fi comedy”, the “sci-fi disaster movie” presented in the middle and later parts of the movie is of better quality. Although the two genres are a bit cut off under the superposition of the two genres, there is always more of an unexpected reward, so the movie-going experience is also better.
In addition, the production of “Moon Man” is quite high-class, with sufficient funding, with the appeal of the cast and team, as well as the characteristics of funny and crying, perhaps it can really become the big hit of this year’s summer program.
The biggest label on Moon Man is “comedy”, so let’s start with comedy.
The movie’s funny style, especially in the first half, is like an absurd farce.
Lunar base repairman Dugu Yue, because of indulging in writing love letters to his crush “Moon Shield Program” leader Ma Bluestar, missed the emergency evacuation of the entire staff, and was left alone on the moon.
Most of the laughs in the movie come from Dokgoo Moon’s daily life, as well as his love affair with his kangaroo “Vajra Rat”, which is an ordinary post-apocalyptic survival comedy, except for the fact that the stage has been changed to the moon.
This is a test of the star’s strength – the good news is that Moon Man has a very high “content”, and many viewers still want to laugh at the sight of Shen Teng; the bad news is that Shen Teng’s performance this time is really not ideal.
I don’t know if it is often participate in variety shows, consumed too much spirit of the relationship, feel Shen Teng in the film never let go to, more in the plot arrangements and instincts in the release of comedy, some very clear laughs belong to the “laugh, but not all laughs” … … not to say that in order to interpret the Dokgoo Moon “middleman” setup to collect acting right? …It’s not as if it’s for the sake of interpreting Dugu Yue’s “middleman” setting and putting it away, right?
In addition, people who are looking forward to Shen Teng Ma Li combination may also be disappointed, these two people in the movie did not have much rivalry, almost all of the space each play their own, “Lonely Moon” and “Bluestar” can never come together.
Originally I can not talk about how much I like the comedy of Happy Mahua, this time is the same, “Moon Man” in a variety of harmonic terrain and paragraph flying, both hilarious, but also fragmented.
I even saw Huang Zitao personally interpreted his famous line “will not so easily go die!”…… Well, I admit that I laughed.
Here also do not want to casually say that the joke baggage “advanced or not”, the audience’s laughter itself does not have high and low points, buy or not to buy depends on your own point of view of the laugh …… But in any case, the movie is full of absurdity is a thousand times true.
Not to mention the original cartoon, which is far from the original, the sci-fi foundation of Moon Man is very weak: a 300-person alien emergency evacuation can be accomplished in more than 20 minutes, the moon has no air but can form a shockwave, not to mention the non-conservation of angular momentum and so forth……. The sci-fi setting of the movie is just like the moon’s sporadic gravity, which is only needed when it is needed. gravity, which is only used when needed.
So, in this absurd context, it’s not that surprising that the survivors on Earth consume a lot of their time watching Dokuroki live.
Having said that about the less satisfying comedic parts, let’s pick up on what I liked about it.
One of the things I most appreciated about Moon Man was the design and transformation of the protagonist’s identity: at first, he’s a self-proclaimed intermediary who is transparent, and when the people of Earth find out that he’s still alive, he’s almost portrayed as a “false hero” (which is probably the most audacious plot point in a movie that’s so careful with its plot), but then the “god-making plan” is realized, and the survivors of the planet spend a lot of time watching the live broadcast. However, the “god-making program” was aborted just before it started, and instead, Vajra Rat and Dokuroku Moon became the top streaming harmonizers, and when Dokuroku Moon started to implement his grand plan to return to Earth, he became an inspiring icon.
From the midway point onwards, Moon Man’s ethos gradually changes, as Doktor Moon stops languishing and starts doing the right thing with the remaining supplies on the moon.
In fact, this shift creates a larger tear in the overall texture of the movie, and because the first half is a bit too scattered and hokey, and the sci-fi setting is on shaky ground, the presentation of the second half is dragged down accordingly.
But the flaws are not overshadowed by the fact that the second half of the movie is predominantly positive and comedic, embarking on a journey home with a lot of twists and turns and contributing a number of famous scenes.
For example, the plan made by Dokuroku Moon to get the hammer of the universe, to seek far and near, reverse the route to the moon to complete the impossible task of a week around the moon, there are unknown suspense, life and death decisions, and the fans on Earth to call, really good to see.
And the idea of chasing the sun in a solar-powered car and sledding on the moon with a kangaroo carrying a tank of nitrogen is just too romantic!
My personal favorite scene, which is also one of the highlights of the film, is when Dokgo-moon wrongly believes that his efforts are all in vain and prepares to kill himself by looking at his hometown, the survivors of the planet light up together, which not only releases the signal that human civilization is still alive, but also lights up Dokgo-moon’s heart to rekindle his vitality.
The good thing about this play is that the main body is the supporting cast on Earth: Ma Bluestar publicly recognized Dokgo Moon’s status as an “ordinary person”, removing the artifacts of this large-scale show, and then encouraged everyone to light up hope for Dokgo Moon, even though from a practical point of view, the light from the flashlights of the majority of the people was useless, and it was impossible to type with lights in view of the restoration of the Earth’s power at that time. Although in reality the light of a flashlight is useless for most people, and given the state of power restoration on earth at that time, it is unlikely that one could type with a light, emotionally it is indeed bursting with the feelings of “all of us are of one heart” and “you’re not alone”.
At the same time, because the word “one” was not typed, Dokgo-moon cried and laughed at the words “you are not a human being”, and this scene really realized the excellent effect of being funny and crying at the same time.
By the way, the production level of the movie is very high, and I remember that in the past few years, except for the kind of top invested blockbuster like “The Battle at Lake Changjin”, it is rare to see a well-funded Chinese movie like “Moon Man”.
Props are real, special effects are outstanding, the title, credits and the montage of the latter part of the film, but also appeared in many different forms of expression, including 3D animation, stop-motion animation, miniature photography, etc., these original “edges” not only need to take the effort, but also need to spend money… …
Not to mention a large number of songs and soundtracks in the movie, just I heard specifically for the “Moon Man” created by Tengger’s interlude and Coco Lee’s end credits, as well as “Take Me Home, Country Road” such a famous song have appeared in …… Indeed, you have to have food in your hands, so that you can not be panic in your heart ah.
At the end of the movie, Dugu Yue, who should have been diverted home from the space station of Guanghan Palace, chose to go alone to stop the asteroid π+ from posing a threat to the Earth again, and with selfless self-sacrifice, he wrote a heroic legend that will remain in the world.
In fact, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make Moon Man a proper drama like The Wandering Earth + The Martian (which it already had that flavor anyway), but that’s a different story ……
In its current finished form, even if it lacks in comedy and pacing, the movie is still watchable because it captures the most central points so well that the viewing experience can’t be bad for most viewers.
It’s as if the asteroid fragments and his ashes form Earth’s rings after Dokuroki saves mankind: both an unscientific and strange setup, and at the same time a pie-in-the-sky romantic fantasy.
Therefore, I still recommend seeing this movie, an innocent, romantic story that deserves to be seen.
