Napoleon 2023 Film Review: Joking about ‘losers’

Film Name: 拿破仑 / Napoleon

I was really looking forward to Ridley Scott’s new film Napoleon, but with the mixed reviews that came out, I knew it couldn’t possibly be that good, and the more poor reviews that came out after its release made me drop my remaining expectations. ……

Honestly, I thought I was being ‘nice’ enough, rarely voicing my displeasure with a film at all, let alone with director Lui, who has an impressive resume that comes with a triple filter – but I didn’t expect that even when I had my hopes up, the reviews were not good enough.

What I didn’t expect was that even if I went to watch it with the mindset of going through the motions, this Napoleon still made me feel disappointed and regretful, even if we when the old Lei head of the people in their old age as long as they are filming on the line, but this level, it’s too much of a free-for-all, isn’t it?

Creators have their own preconceived ideas, OK, no problem, we should not have asked everyone to be objective and impartial in the creation of literature and art;

It is not unacceptable to engage in all sorts of drama, new compilations and dramatisations, as we have never watched it as a historical film;

However, as a film with French Emperor Napoleon as the protagonist, telling the story of his magnificent life from soldier to emperor to the end, it is unreasonable to say that it doesn’t even have the minimum and proper ‘spirit’.

In my opinion, Napoleon is a spoof of patriarchy, masculinity and prestige in the name of Emperor Napoleon. It depicts the complicated love history of Napoleon and Joseph in the style of trashy literature and links it with Napoleon’s life story to satisfy the public’s pleasure of listening to the wild history of the countryside.

In fact, it’s not impossible to spoof the film, just let go a bit more and play some travelling, sci-fi and so on, but Napoleon is clearly a serious drama, so you have to come up with some convincing hard goods, right?

From start to finish, the film portrays Napoleon as a doomed loser, without the slightest hint of pleasure, excitement or pride, only morbid flaws and eerie obscurity.

Anyone else would have been fine, but this is the work of Ridley Scott, who has never disappointed me. …… With the same historical theme, Gladiator is also about failure, but it’s shot with pathos and love, and Kingdom of Heaven isn’t about history, but it’s got the respect and reverence it deserves. Even the poorly-received Robin Hood at least had a sharp flow ……

Even if it’s clearly aimed at hacking Napoleon, if it doesn’t capture some of his highlights, it’s not a good hack, is it?

To put it bluntly, this ‘Napoleon’ gives me the feeling that the whole film is about how a man who seems to be powerful but is actually an ED can’t get it up, and all the shows of masculinity are fake, all of them are preparing for the next time he can’t get it up, and the conclusion is that he can’t get it up.

It’s no wonder that the British love Napoleon and the French hate it. As a Brit, Lei is continuing the centuries-old tradition of burying the French to death.

In the final analysis, it is also attributed to the fact that English is the first language in the world to export pop culture (behind it stands the creative power of the United States, Britain, Canada and other Anglo-Saxon countries), French and Chinese, Russian and so on, is only a regional use of the common language, and even I have the most impression of the ‘Les Miserables’ are in English, so where is the justification for this?

If they want to set the record straight, the French should invest in their own Napoleon, but can they? Now that director Lui has taken Apple’s money and made this arbitrary Napoleon, I think the British and Americans have another easy win, no matter what the final verdict is.

Future generations will have to compete, or God only knows how many more ‘annals of the ages’ there will be in the future. ……
