On the morning of the first day of the year, I took my kids to see Ne Zha 2 first – I had five swipes of Ne Zha 2 during the summer of 2019 and did my own ticket giveaway, so you can imagine how much I enjoyed this new series.
Luckily, the sequel has lived up to my expectations for more than five years now, and it’s definitely a good movie to recommend.
I had a great time watching the movie, and the more I think about it now, the better I feel about Ne Zha 2: not only did it upgrade the production in terms of sound, picture, and setting to make it literally “good-looking,” but it also made subversive and up-to-date innovations in the storytelling, and in the conceptualization of the film, which gives it a depth that can be chewed on over and over again. The depth of the movie can be chewed over and over again.
Judging from the initial feedback of the new movies in the Spring Festival slot, I can almost say that “Ne Zha 2” will not only be the highest grossing movie, but also the one with the best word-of-mouth, the best of its time.

“Ne Zha 2” continues the comedic style of its predecessor (it even keeps the shit-faced laughs that some viewers were unhappy with, and it’s all about the capriciousness, which I love), which is simple, natural, fun and effective.
Moreover, the movie has achieved a certain degree of comedic upgrading on the basis of the original comedy – I’m talking about the part where Ao B’s spirit possesses Ne Zha’s lotus root flesh, knowing that Ao B’s kind of “good boy” character is not funny, and has to be combined with Ne Zha, who is a dandified man, to get “laughs”. Only with Nezha’s drollery will it be funny.
The movie’s two souls and rotating bodies not only gives Ao B’s spirit-jeweled version of Ne Zha the same ability to be serious and funny, but also makes the parts where the two seamlessly play together even more entertaining and funny, which can be considered a very clever win-win situation.
Now it’s time to talk about the movie’s story.
The main thing that won me over in “Ne Zha 2” was the silky smooth narrative, and in this sequel, writer-director Dumpling’s skills are still intact.
Throughout the entire “Ne Zha 2”, the story is clear and smooth, the logic is in place, and there are no obvious far-fetched plots. Even if there are a few parts of the plot that seem to have problems with the pacing, they are immediately answered in the subsequent stories. …… This is a skill that many of my peers should learn from.

Shen Gongbao is able to distinguish between right and wrong in the face of a strange turn of events, Ao Leun, Ao Qin, Ao Shun, the three dragon kings and Ao Guang make different choices based on the situation, and even Ne Zha and Taiyi Zhen, who are duped, don’t seem unreasonable to the audience.
But the biggest thing that “Ne Zha 2” has done in terms of text creation, I think, is that the creators really intend to completely change and deconstruct the story of “Feng Shen Bang”, and the new story of Ne Zha, the magic boy, will continue to be “new”, and I’m afraid that a lot of past experiences will be out of order. Many of the lessons of the past will be lost.
Because the movie finally portrays the Hierophant as the villain – disliking the Hierophant, who “follows the will of heaven and acts with determination,” and sympathizing with the Interceptor, who “has no religion and is equal. Such voices have always existed, and “Ne Zha 2” takes this argument a step further by turning the Immense Immortal Weng into a ruthless and unscrupulous hegemony pursuer, and all demons and devils that may threaten the status of the Hierophant Church must be eliminated as soon as possible.
