Film Name:殺手之王 / The Contract Killer / The Hitman

《The Contract Killer》 is a Hong Kong action film starring Jet Li as the character Fu, in which he plays a character whose action design is simple yet explosive, and whose martial arts scenes are pleasing to the eye, but whose ultimate martial arts scene is shorter and not as enjoyable as the one in 《Black Mask》. The film’s plot may not stand up to close scrutiny, for example, Tsukamoto’s abandonment of his huge family business to take up a murderous business with the triads, which ultimately leads to the loss of both his life and his money, may seem like the act of a fool or a madman.

The film’s sixth sense, in which Jet Li’s character Fu knows that Yam Tat-wah’s policeman is a blazing angel simply by intuition, is considered too powerful. The development of the relationship between Fu and Kiki, the character played by Gigi Leung, also seems to be abrupt, and these plot treatments may confuse the audience.

Nonetheless, the film still has its charms, such as the comedic performance of Eric Tsang and the action scenes of Jet Li, which add to the film’s spectacle. The film was not expensive to make and is described as a small low-budget production.

Overall, 《The Contract Killer》 is a watchable film with some plot flaws.
